Our commitment

Fixed Point Labs builds websites that people can actually use, including people who browse with a screen reader, a keyboard alone, magnification, speech input, or with motion and colour sensitivities. That applies to the sites we build for clients and to this one.

We are not a large organisation and we do not pretend to have a formal audit programme. What follows is an accurate account of what has been done, not a marketing claim.

The standard we target

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at conformance level AA.

In Australia there is no statute that fixes a conformance level for a private business website. The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) makes discrimination in the provision of services unlawful, and the Australian Human Rights Commission's advisory notes on web access treat WCAG as the practical measure of whether a site is accessible. Commonwealth and NSW government agencies are held to WCAG by procurement policy rather than by that Act. We target AA because it is the level those policies use and the level our clients are most often asked for.

What that means in practice

Specific things this site does, each of which you can verify:

• Every page is reachable and operable with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator that meets the 3:1 contrast requirement, and a skip link that moves focus to the main content.
• Text and meaningful icons meet the WCAG AA contrast minimums against their background — 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text, interface boundaries and graphics that carry meaning.
• Headings run in order without skipping a level, so the page can be navigated by structure rather than by scrolling.
• Icons that carry information, such as the ticks and dashes in the plan comparison, have a text equivalent for anyone who cannot see or distinguish them.
• Form fields have real labels, errors are announced rather than only shown in colour, and the confirmation after sending a message moves focus so it cannot pass unnoticed.
• Animation is limited to short fades, and all of it is disabled for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion.
• Content is readable and functional without JavaScript, and reflows to a single column down to 320px wide without horizontal scrolling.

Where we fall short

Stated plainly, because a statement that lists only successes is not useful to the person reading it:

• The site has not been through an independent accessibility audit, and it has not been tested with every screen reader and browser combination. Testing to date has been against the WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria and with automated tooling.
• It has not been tested with users with disability. Automated checks and manual review catch a great deal, but they are not a substitute for that.
• The site is published in English only, and no plain-language or Easy Read version is offered.

We would rather list these than leave you to discover them.

Third-party content

This site does not embed third-party video, maps, chat widgets or advertising, so there is no external content whose accessibility is outside our control. If that changes, this section will say so.

Telling us about a barrier

If something on this site stops you doing what you came to do, please tell us at clayton@fixedpointlabs.com.au. Describe the page and what happened — you do not need to know the technical cause or name a guideline.

We aim to respond within 1 business day and to tell you either when it will be fixed or, if it cannot reasonably be fixed, how you can get the same information or outcome another way. There is no charge for this and you will not be asked to justify the request.

If we do not resolve it

If you are not satisfied with how we have responded, you can make a complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission, which handles complaints of disability discrimination under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), at humanrights.gov.au. The Commission's process is free and starts with conciliation.
